Muy bueno Putty, herramienta infaltable para trabajar en ambientes 
hostiles (windows ;-) )
No se me habia ocurrido buscar version para linux, existe y estaba en 
los repositorios DAG, rpm -Uvh y ya tenemos nuestro fiel putty sobre linux.

Sirve precisamente para lo que buscabas... claro que no se como maneje 
los 1000 hosts que quieres almacenar... (poderosa herramienta, regular 
interfaz)
