un pequeño extracto...

Solaris 10 is a pretty revolutionary OS, the first flavor of Unix that
deserves to be called XXI century Unix. It is more technically
advanced OS then Linux and with the opening of Solaris 10 it should be
recommended for enterprise customers, who prefer open systems.

Solaris 10 has uniquely instrumented kernel that makes such an
amazing tool as DTrace possible. On SPARC hardware Solaris has some
unique advantages like self-healing/hardware diagnostic capabilities.
It also has better kernel visibility and debugging tools which are
critical to get a correct understanding of system behavior. The main
advantage of Solaris is its stability, with Solaris 8 and 9 being one
of the most stable versions of Unix in the history of this OS.

Linux is still preferable as a low cost development workstation due to
a wider hardware compatibility and PC friendliness. Also Linux is very
convenient for prototyping and might be extremely helpful in fighting
corporate red tape.

Solaris 10 in UltraSparc has dramatically better security then Linux
[Bezroukov2005a]. This is partially due to ability to clock stack
overflow exploits, partially due to the fact of using different as far
less popular hardware and target compiler but also partially to an
excellent implementation of RBC and light-weight VM (zones), which are
similar to BSD jails.
